He relates how on a certain day, in his youth, while out hunting, he fell into a reflection upon the nature of his pursuit, that of amus ing himself by giving pain and death to harm less, innocent creatures that perhaps had as much right to life and enjoyment as he had; feeling condemned, he laid his gun upon his shoulder, returned home, and thenceforth had no inclination for that murderous amuse ment.
