O knihe
Phytogenic additives are considered as one of the possible alternatives to Antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) in poultry production. Phytogenics are a group of natural growth promoters (NGP) used as feed additives and are derived from herbs, spices or other plants. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) commonly known as "dalchini" is one of the oldest medicinal plants and widely used as condiment in India. It is known to possess appetite and digestion stimulant properties. It also serves as a good mouth freshener. Many essential oils have been isolated from the cinnamon like cinnamic acid, cinnamaldehyde, cinnamate, caryophyllene oxide, eugenol, L-borneol. Cinnamaldehyde possess strong antibacterial, antioxidant, anticandidial, anti-ulcer, anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory properties. The present study indicated that incorporation of cinnamon powder up to 1.0% level in the diet resulted in improved body weight gains and decreased feed cost/kg gain in quails.
