O knihe
Manufacturing industry is taking sizable stake to keep pace of economic growth. Amongst the various processes in manufacturing of any product, metal cutting operations play vital role. Hence, cutting tools are developed with intention to improve productivity without compromising finishing quality the product. Various het treatment processes have been emerged over period for hardening of cutting tools. Substantial research has been done on High Speed Steels (HSS) used for tools. Amongst these treatments subzero treatment are widely considered in the recent past. Cryogenic treatment which is deep subzero working on the tool have been considered for extending the tool life. It is relatively a new process to eliminate retained austenite phase by reducing the temperature. In this process, the material is taken to deep freeze temperatures of as low as -185°C.Pilot experimentations are carried out for studying effect of cryogenic treatments on T42 tool steel. The samples of T42 HSS are subjected to cryogenic treatment at different temperatures soaked for varied time followed by tempering 100oC. The conventionally treated and cryogenically treated samples are used for turning operations.
