These re¿ections are prompted by the remembrance of a young soldier's funeral which I witnessed some years ago. There was an unusually large attendance of ofii cers, and I thought the faces of some of them betokened real grief. Meeting one of them the same evening, I asked him whose fune ral had taken place that day.
