O knihe

This research work aims to be an introductory study to the representations of death in the center of the province of Santa Fe during the period 1860-1940, interpreting the different rites and funeral ceremonies in the agricultural colonies of the departments of Las Colonias and Castellanos through the different photographic records. The objective is to know the ideas, beliefs and signs that surrounded death and how they were changing in the period considered. Understanding the beliefs and meanings that existed around death, as well as the role played by the different rites that were developed, will allow us to reconstruct the collective imaginary about death. The agricultural colonies, which emerged with different religious creeds, were implementing various mechanisms in the face of death, such as wakes, which were held in the homes of families, burials, and countless ceremonies with the intention of magnifying and remembering the deceased, such as the reading of different texts; finally, masses. Each of these rites were accompanied by the taking of photographs, reinforcing the bonds of remembrance.
