Nothing but a due regard for the public could make the author meddle with a subject where he shall be necessarily obliged to write with a great deal of freedom of the late behavior of certain persons, whom, before the author are very much esteemed. In the doing of this, he hopes to show it is not unkindness for their persons, but love to his country which wholly influences him. Therefore, he shall religiously avoid saying anything of them, but where the public is concerned in their actions.
