This characteristic makes each archive very special in their field. As an administrative and commercial capital of British government in India, Calcutta became the hub of historical, cultural, and administrative works. The cross-border trade during British period helps the Persians, French, Portuguese, and others to visit the city and spreading their own culture too. Hence, Calcutta witnessed and preserved cosmopolitan history of India and the world. "Down the Memory Lane: A Journey through the Archives of Calcutta (Kolkata)" offers to roam the City of Joy and bathed in the historical facts that are preserved in various types of Archives present in Kolkata. The book is an individual work of Dr. Mitra, who physically toured the city and visited the archives of all different categories. As there was no documented list of Archives in Kolkata, Dr. Mitra compiled the total list of 46 archives and this book represented the archives from her compiled list.
