O knihe
This book is analyses the efficiency of soyabean production among small-scale farmers in Central Agricultural Zone of Nigeria, where soyabean is predominantly produced in the country. The study concluded that since the pooled technical efficiency of the soyabean farmers in the Zone (sampled from Benue, Plateau and Niger States) was found to be significantly different from Zero (0.53), current production of the crop for food security is guaranteed in the short run, but their technical efficiency should be improved by 47% for medium and long run sustainable food security. None of the States, hence the Zone, has reach frontier threshold, as such soyabean production should be improved by optimum utilization of inputs. The mean technical efficiency index of the Zone(0.53) implies that in the short run there is scope for increasing production for soyabean by 47 percent in the Zone, by adopting the best practiced technologies and techniques.Policies and programmes to improve farmers access to education, farm size, extension services and encouraging experienced farmers to continue with soyabean production will be useful in increasing the technical and allocative efficiency.
