O knihe
Children, particularly sons, have been taken as a security in old age. Ensuring protection, care and well-being to aged parents has been one of the primary roles of family system. However, in modern times, due to certain factors of social change, increasing number of older people are 'living alone'. The mode of care for aged parents is changing and subtly new concept of 'distance care' or 'caring from a distance' is emerging. The present book is an empirical research that looks into practicalities and modalities of 'distance care' provided by the children to their elderly parents. It takes into account the problems, challenges and coping patterns of older parents living alone and also looks into the difficulties encountered by married children staying away from their parents in providing care from a distance. The book would be relevant for gerontologists, care-givers of older people, social planners and policy makers and students.
