O knihe

Ocimum sanctum belongs to the family Lamiaceae. It is mainly used as a medicinal plant and also as herbal tea. It is used in Ayurveda and had an important role in the tradition of Hinduism. The eugenol acts on the plasma membrane by the help of a mechanism that involves inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis. By this inhibition, it decreases the ergosterol content interfere the function of the plasma membrane. Thus eugenol can disrupt the plasma membrane and cause oxidative stress in the fungal cell of dermatophytes. This study supports that the eugenol exerts antifungal activity via interference of fungal plasma membrane. The proniosomal gelling system controls the degradation of drug and prevents loss and harmful side effects which ultimately increase the availability of the drug at the disease site. For the treatment of intracellular infections, a conventional delivery system is not effective due to limited residence and permeation of drugs into cells. Proniosomal gels are becoming popular due to ease of application and better penetration than other conventional semi-solid preparations.
