O knihe

The processes of colonialism culminate in psychological and physical aggression against colonized peoples like the Filipinos, who are victims of colonialism. In order to comprehend these generational wounds, scholars have developed ideas such as historical trauma and colonial mindset, among others. It is intentional and catastrophic violence that ruins the health of a community, a family, and an individual. Filipino Americans are affected by colonial mentality, a type of Historical Trauma that has a negative impact on their mental health. The prevalence of depression among Filipinos is higher than that of Asians or white Americans, and more than half of high school students report suicidal thoughts. Researchers have discovered a link between colonial mentality and mental health and well-being. Additionally, Filipinos are afflicted with high blood pressure, tuberculosis, hepatitis, diabetes, and drug and alcohol addiction. The focus of this qualitative phenomenological inquiry is on decolonization/indigenous psychology, as well as Filipino psychology. The researchers conducted a poll of leaders of colonized Filipino decolonization and indigenous activities in the United States.
