The witnesses are many, and Prophecy is one, yet but one, among them. The voice of a single witness however, is important, when it corroborates the testi mony of others. The prophets had indeed a mission distinct from the foretelling of future events. They were the religious teachers of their nation. But inci dentally, almost necessarily, their portrayal of threat ened judgments took the form of what we call pro phecy. Did they declare truthfully what was yet to be? If so, were they taught and guided by human sagacity, or by the inspiration of Him who seeth the end from the beginning?
