The population of the State, as appears from the census of 1870, is or about 14 inhabitants to the Square mile, an increase Of over the Census of 1860. This increase in the population was, as the records Show, largely domestic im migration. The State has never before presented inducements for the encouragement of immigration, and in consequence thereof millions of acres Of fertile lands, situated in every pait Of the State, invite thrifty and industrious settlers to an inde pendent competence.
