It is with a great deal of feeling that I today pick up the reins of the Government of the City of Laconia. It is with a conscious feeling of humble pride, an appreciation of my many shortcomings and with full knowledge of the challenge that it means to me and the newly elected members of the council.

The people of Laconia have given -us an opportunity to serve them. I say here and now and I will not forget during the next two years, that my first and foremost allegiance is to the people of our city and not to any chosen few, any party, or any group of people. I do not mean that I am not a Democrat now, - after the contest is over for that would be untrue. I am a Democrat because I have always believed that this party more nearly than any other, tries to represent all the people whether they be laborer or rich man, veteran or farmer, housewife or merchant.
