The nature of the host's immune response is a major determinant of the outcome of the bacterial challenge and in order to accurately evaluate patient's periodontal status, his or her individual immune response, appropriate diagnostic test along with the conventional methods will be useful. Currently, gingival crevicular fluid shows great promise as a source of factors for assessing periodontal disease activity.The relationship between indicators of the host response in GCF and chronic adult periodontitis suggests that these biochemical markers found in GCF may be risk indicators for future disease progression as measured by clinical attachment loss.
