The innate immune system, known as the non-specific immune system,is an important part of the immune system which is comprised of the cells and mechanisms that defend the organism from infection by other organisms. The cells of the innate immunity recognize and respond to infections in a similar way, but, unlike the adaptive immunity, it does not provide long-lasting immunity to the host. The innate immune system is dominant in plants, fungi, insects, and primitive multicellular organisms. Its major functions in vertebrate: Recruiting immune cells to sites of infection through cytokine production, complement Activation to identify bacteria, activate cells, and promote clearance of antibody complexes or dead cells, Identification and removal of foreign substances, antigen presentation, anatomical barriers and prevent pathogens from establishing themselves inside the host.
