Safflower is an important rabi oilseed crop and play a key role in the national economy. Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. carthami and Alternaria leaf spot caused by Alternaria carthami reduced the seed yield and oil content. Thus it causes major economic loss. These two are major diseases of safflower in Marathwada region of Maharashtra state. The 10 safflower varieties viz. Sharda, Bhima, PBNS-12, Sarpan, DSH-129, Annagri-1 (A1), PBNS-5-1-7, Nari-6, PBNS-40 and Nira were screened for seed mycoflora under unsterilized and sterilized condition. Prevention and control of diseases by various methods plays an important role in increase in yield of safflower crop.
