Wölfi, der direkter Zeitgenosse Beethovens war, und mit diesem auch oft verglichen wurde, erhielt seine frühe Ausbildung von Leopold Mozart und Michael Haydn und galt als einer der führenden Klaviervirtuosen seiner Generation.
