The study explores the journey of people living with mental illness. In India near 4.1% of annual fiscal budget is allocated to health care services but only 0.82% of that is spent towards mental health care indicating the scant attention paid towards mental health care. WHO estimates that at any point of time 10% of global population suffers from some form or other of mental illness and one in four persons will be affected at least once in their life time. Person with mental illness have similar day to day lives based on certain principles, doctrines, faith and style acquired over the years either through family, friends or personal earning experiences. However the stigma and discrimination faced by them due to their illness makes them face barriers. A person who experiences mental illness requires the acceptance of society. However in research it has been shown that with social support people can lead a better quality of life. Studies have been done on caregiver but little attention has been given to the person when the caregiver is attending. This study explore the lived experience of people with mental illnesses as it is an under researched area of study.
