O knihe

This research will focus on poverty within the Johannesburg Gauteng province. My contention is that poor people are often neglected by the government and even the church and as a result being seen as those who have become a burden for society, yet these are people who have no access to the necessities of life. How can the Church of the Nazarene reflect upon Wesley's works of mercy in order to focus again on the poor within the Johannesburg area? This research will look at Wesley's theology of social engagement with a particular focus on being good news to those who are considered poor within the Johannesburg area. The paper has a fourfold analytical description. First it will look at the plight of the poor, and explore how government policies continue to affect the poor, including the increasing poverty gap. Secondly I will address the question: why does poverty and inequality continue to grow within a post democratic South Africa? Thirdly I will depict John Wesley's theology of works of mercy with particular reference to the Church of the Nazarene. And finally the book will look at the possible application of Wesley's theology in a Johannesburg context.
