Modelling travel demand is an emerging topic in transportation research. Investigation of especially residential and employment locations from travel survey results is one of the main aspects of accurate travel demand modelling procedure. Hence, this research aims to enlighten readers regarding the details of investigation process of home and work locations of travel survey respondents, geocoding and spatial analysis by using these spatial data. Spatial variables and attributes from the Transportation Tomorrow Survey (TTS) data are explained and listed to discover how location data were gathered and utilized for the models after examining Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) local and provincial government agencies' travel demand forecasting models. Different methods of geocoding are discussed and explained with examples. According our results, using a GIS software and programming offers more efficient solutions for geocoding and spatial analysis.
