On a holiday in Venice with his wife, he visits the Church of San Giorgio and, with the encouragement of an Italian priest, Father Anthony, seeks a resolution by partly reconstructing the original trial.

Nigel Pascoe is a senior QC, acting principally in murder cases, who also writes plays and stages one man shows, notably the Trial of Penn and Mead (Old Bailey 1670).
