O knihe
The main purpose of this study was to assess the factors that lead to poor performance of students in the Atonsu circuit in BECE mathematics and finding ways of curbing the situation. The action research enabled the researcher to carefully construct standardized questionnaires which provided data in the same form from all respondents. The study revealed that the insufficient teaching and learning materials sometimes hampered mathematics teachers from giving of their best. Some pupils were also noted for irregularity in attendance to school. Parents did not have guided plans to assist pupils to learn at home. Moreover, some parents did not supply most of the academic needs of their wards. The study recommended that, mathematics teachers at the Junior High Schools as well as teachers in the primary schools are to make school-based inservice training and team teaching in mathematics a priority. Also, both teachers and parents must deem it necessary to motivate the individual to have positive attitude and good study habits.
