O knihe

In modern day critical care, device utilization, though unavoidable because of its life-saving implications, is associated with a high risk of complications such as ventilator associated pneumonia, urinary tract infections and catheter related bloodstream infections. This study mainly focuses on the role of ventilator in causing ventilator associated pneumonia and cross infection in ITU patients.10 targeted ventilators were followed up for 1 year.100 patients with VAP according to the criteria followed, were studied. Samples were collected from the ventilator (disposable and reusable parts) as well as from patients (endotracheal tube aspirate and BAL fluid). Routine isolation, identification and resistogram typing were done. Biofilm status of the isolated organisms was evaluated in micro titre plate by modified Christensen's method and interpretation done by Stepanovic's method. In this study cross infection correlation was concluded based on same organisms isolated from the ventilator parts and VAP patients sample.
