It is polyploidy with chromosome no (2n) = 96. Japanese mint is one of the important commercial crops in central and tarai region of Uttar Pradesh and mostly cultivated in South Himalayan range, Northern Indo-Gangetic Plains, U.P. and some part of Bihar.
