O knihe

This book describes the prevalence and severity of dental caries among 8 to 12 year old schoolchildren. The associations between caries prevalence and Mutans streptococci and between trends in caries severity and Mutans streptococci counts were explored. Furthermore, the distribution of Mutans streptococci species and serotypes was determined. Dental caries is a common childhood disease. The decisive role played by Mutans streptococci group in the initiation and development of caries is well established. The group is categorised into seven species and nine serotypes. The species most commonly isolated are Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) and Streptococcus Sobrinus (S. sobrinus). Molecular techniques are used to reliably identify species and serotypes.
