O knihe

In this book, the author has explored the diasporic discourses in terms of form, style, technique, theme in order to delve into linguistic challenges and opportunities in diasporic discourse. South Asian Canadian literature offers entry into mainstream literature what has long been considered the territory of the others. It shows how geographical, ethnic and cultural make-up and differences serve as signifying constitutes of the multilayered self. Focusing upon the immigrant's experiences in terms of their community life, culture and language, the author has tried to analyse the South Asian immigrant writer's perspective from the view-point of double consciousness. Caught between two worlds, the immigrants negotiate a new space, caught between two culture and often languages, the writers negotiate a new literacy space. South Asian countries and Canada, apart from being commonwealth countries have much in common in the field of literature, culture and social norms. This author has attempted to provide a theoretical framework for literature of South Asian Diaspora in Canada.
