O knihe
Strengthening the rights of women has become an imperative area of concern for the world society so that all women could enjoy a dignified status. In India, the National Commission for Women was setup as a ¿Statutory Body¿ on 30th January 1992 under the NCW Act of 1990 to safeguard and represent women¿s rights and to serve as a strong voice for their concerns. The study reveals that indeed the NCW is the only watchdog body of women¿s rights and is a kind of mechanism that talks about women¿s liberation and represents their progression in the nation. Though, it is evident that scope of the Commission is certainly narrow. Its working pattern needs to be enhanced with more laborious work to meet the expectations of its makers. Moreover, India has a separate identity prominently in the world for its veneration and respect towards women folk. Hence, Indian society needs a major positive change in its behaviour and opinion about women to maintain its prolonged reputation. It would be difficult to say that women are safe in the Indian patriarchal society until they do not inculcate in themselves a real will to know their basic rights, and to protect themselves on their own.
