Shame is one of the most powerful emotions a person can experience. In many ways, it can be a helpful signal that alerts us of a situation, an action, or a feeling that is deemed erroneous or harmful to one's self or to others. This signal can help us to make adjustments in our lives or to avoid repeating or engaging in certain behaviors. On the other hand, however, shame can be crippling and stifling in that it causes one to feel useless, unworthy, and/or damaged. Shame sometimes pushes one to believe he or she does not belong or does not deserve to be loved or respected as a human being. No Shame in the Game seeks explore the fundamental causes of shame, how it may developed, how Jesus ministered to people, and, lastly, how Frankl's Logotherapy can help people to achieve balance and wholeness in their lives. No Shame in the Game serves as an introduction of a 3-book series in which shame and sexual abuse are explored in the African American community. Although sexual abuse is not exclusively prevalent within the African American community, shame is unique to this group of people in that it affects differently based upon the historical context and experience to which they have endured up to this point in American history. Therefore, No Shame in the Game, as well as Tamar's Healing, Perpetual Victim, and Is It Just Me?, will examine, discuss, shine a light on this dismal part of life, and offer hope, insight and ways for which God's children can cope with shame in a healthy, balanced way.
