Today, both public and private universities need to provide students with extra opportunities on top of physical facilities so as to attract prospective students and retain and satisfy the current ones. In this regard, the discretionary and extra-role behavior of the academics and administrative staff, and the factors that can increase such behavior in public and private universities, have become vital. The role of the managers in each faculty and unit of these universities in influencing employees' extra efforts is important.
