O knihe

The management of pain, and in particular chronic orofacial pain, has become an unavoidable necessity and is primarily the responsibility of specialists in this region, namely dentists and odontostomatologists. The role of the latter remains fundamental in the initial treatment and the eventual orientation towards a specialized structure. The role of the other protagonists in the treatment of orofacial pain comes into play in a secondary role when the classic and usual therapies have proved unsuccessful. Diagnostic research consists in finding the etiology of this pain. The possibility of a secondary pain or pain-symptom must be explored first and an ENT cause eliminated de facto. The diagnosis of neurogenic pain or pain-disease should only be made last, and the role of the pain specialist, i.e. the neurologist, is very important here. In the end, taking into account the reality of the patient's pain and referring him/her under the right conditions are the first steps in the therapeutic process.
