O knihe

This book is specializing in pedestrian wind environmental issue and solution focusing on the effect of urban geometry. A city can be viewed as a spatial aggregation of buildings with different size, shape and material, so-called 'urban canopy', which defines the physical environment of urban space represented by physical quantities such as solar radiation, temperature, velocity, humidity, and so on. The urban effect on wind environment is one of important ones to be considered, because both the change in wind speed potentially leads to uncomfortable conditions for pedestrians and insufficient removal of air pollutants. Therefore, the knowledge of how we should design urban spaces for better pedestrian wind environment is strongly required. Under these circumstances, in this book, the author presents the result of a series of numerical simulation of airflow over urban-like block arrays with various geometry conditions based on large eddy simulation (LES). The book also gives the simple mathematical equation on how to predict the mean wind speed at pedestrian level and it was useful to urban designer for preliminary prediction.
