O knihe
This book is based on a study carried out in seven public universities in Kenya with an aim of establishing the level of implementation of the Persons with Disability Act (2003) and the implication of the implementation of the Act to social interaction and enhancement of the learning environment of students with disabilities. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative research methods with a variety of research instruments. The author argues that the implementation of the Act in public universities in Kenya is inadequate for students with disabilities. This, in turn, causes unfavourable social interaction and learning environments in regard to factors such as: provision of special devices and services, discrimination and civic rights. The author recommends that: universities should enforce policies regarding rights and privileges of students with disabilities as stipulated in the Act; and that awareness should be made to the entire university fraternity regarding treatment and accommodation of students with disabilities. This book is a must-read for managers of educational institutions, educators and educational policy makers.
