I'r occurred to the Writer of the following pages, that a short treatise on the Law of Principal and Agent, somewhat more copious and comprehensive than the chapters devoted to that head in works of a general character, such as Addison on Contracts or Smith's Mercantile Law, but still not aspiring to the difihseness of such a treatise as Mr. Justice Story's Commentaries on the Law of Agency, might be found useful by practitioners. No English work on the subject has appeared for some years, and since Mr. Story's treatise was published there have been numerous decisions in the English Courts on certain branches of the law of Agency.
