O knihe

This book offers an investigation and classification of the phonological processes exhibited in the speech of Yemeni Arabic children. It mainly focuses on the acquisition of phonological system more specifically the consonantal system and all phonological processes involved. It shows how the child gets his/her phonological system developed at a particular stage. Phonological processes are universal property to all languages and each language shows some language-specific processes. These processes are used by children to facilitate their speech production. They are said to occur when morphemes are combined to form words, the segments of neighboring morphemes become altered and sometimes undergo changes. These processes are constrained by phonological rules which specify the system controlling the combination of the sound sequences. The discussion involves processes like assimilation, substitution, metathesis, fronting, backing, etc.
