ABSTRACT:The physicochemical properties and fatty acid composition of Linum usitatissimum L. and Nigella sativa L. seeds oil were investigated. The oil was extracted in a soxhlet apparatus using hexane and evaluated for acid value, iodine value, peroxide value saponification values, reflective index and moisture content. The oil was also analyzed for different element viz. silver (Ag), aluminum (Al) boron (B), barium (Ba), bismuth (Bi), calcium (Ca), cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), potassium (K), lithium (Li), manganese (Mn), sodium (Na), Nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), strontium (Sr), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), iron (Fe), gold (Au), and mercury (Hg) using Inductive Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS). The fatty acid profile of the oil was determined by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). For each analysis Linum usitatissimum (linseed) oil was compared to Nigella sativa (klonji) oil. The physicochemical analysis of linseed oil showed less values viz. acid peroxide and moisture content as compared to klonji oil. The different element analysis showed that gold and silver like important elements were found in both the oil.
