O knihe

Objective: To determine the relationship between epidemiological aspects, 25(OH) D levels and development of osteoporosis in patients who attended the Endocrinology office of the Vargas Hospital in Caracas between July 2016 and October 2018. Methods: Descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of twenty-nine women with postmenopausal osteoporosis and was divided into two groups according to 25(OH) D levels: 15 patients with hypovitaminosis D and 14 patients with vitamin D sufficiency. The value in g/cm2 and standard deviations of bone mineral density were recorded by DXA of the spine, femoral neck, trochanter and total hip, as well as determination of serum sodium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium levels, TSH, free T4 and PTH. Results: There was no statistical difference in clinical, biochemical and densitometric characteristics between groups, except for serum calcium, which was lower in the hypovitaminosis D group (p= 0.014). There was no statistical correlation between 25(OH) D levels and bone mineral density in the skeletal areas analyzed.
