Pregnancy induced hypertension is a serious disorder of pregnancy with high morbidity and mortality rate for mothers and infants.Worldwide, PIH is a significant health problem to mothers and infants; it had negative impact on health that increases the mother and infant morbidity and mortality rate. WHO (2005) estimated the incidence of preeclampsia to be seven times higher in developing countries (2.8% of live births) than in developed countries (0.4%).In this study, the researcher tried to identify the major risk factors that contributing to the development of PIH among pregnant women in GS, and benefit from the suspected identified factors in putting plans for controlling and modifying these factors to reduce their adverse effects for the sake of mothers and their infants. The results of the study revealed that part of the risk factors contributing to the development of PIH were modifiable factors including; age of delivery, BMI, number of pregnancies, number of deliveries, previous history of PIH, previous abortion, dietary habits, exercise and rest, and antenatal care. Appropriate screening and close monitoring are inevitable for the wellbeing of both the mother and her fetus.
