It is perceived that there is high demand in India for Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG). There are two channels of distribution of consumer goods, one is wholesale and another is retail trade. Presently, the Indian retail trade is unorganized which accounts for 98 per cent in the total trade. The total number of retail outlets in India is around 12 million. Most of these retail stores are small in nature and are located in almost all areas. India is ranked second in the global retail development index of 30 developing countries. India has become a potential market for the global retail players, who are facing the problem of saturation in the developed markets.
