O knihe
Institutions, media and the general public throughout Europe exchange information about ionizing radiation (IR) and associated risks. The Fukushima accident demonstrated once again the need to further improve this communication. The FP7-EURATOM project EAGLE aimed at clarifying the information and communication strategies enabling informed societal decision-making. Education, training and information to the public are key factors in the governance of IR risks, and also opportunities for dialogue and stakeholder involvement in decision-making. EAGLE engaged stakeholders in assessing the current practices and provided guidance for good practice supporting the ideal of a participative, citizen-centered communication. This book gathers the wisdom gained when EAGLE reached out to representatives of nuclear actors, users of ionizing radiation, authorities, mass and social media, and informed civil society, in a range of European countries with or without nuclear power programs. In an easy-to-read format, it collects examples and advice for a broad range of situations. The book will be appreciated by anyone who wants to improve the societal dialogue about the use of ionizing radiation.
