O knihe
This book examines the role of pottery as a tool for rehabilitation in Kenya prisons. The author argues that pottery encourages self-expression, assists inmates to adjust to the prison environment and prepares them for release and employment. She takes the reader through the techniques used in pottery production for rehabilitation of women prisoners, assesses the quality of pottery products in addressing the rehabilitation of women prisoners in Kenya and examines barriers to pottery production for effective rehabilitation in women prisons. Jane demonstrates that training should be geared towards the use of modern technology as this will encourage a greater number of inmates in pottery. She also recommends that authorities concerned with prisons should allocate adequate funding to improve facilities in the pottery section and illustrators should have more training and encourage more inmates to enroll in pottery programme. The book enriches the body of knowledge and serves as a guide for the government, prison institutions and other stakeholders to come up with policies and strategies useful in rehabilitation of women inmates in preparation for release back into the society.
