O knihe
Human rights are universal, inalienable, indivisible and interdependent and each person is entitled to know about them. This study sought to investigate school factors affecting human rights education in secondary schools in Kasarani, Kenya.Variables investigated were students' and teachers' human rights awareness, teachers' perception, instructional resources and teaching strategies.Descriptive survey design was adopted in which a sample of 298 Form three students and 40 History, Religious Education and Life Skills teachers was taken. Results showed that instructional resources were inadequate and teachers used mainly lecture method to teach human rights.Teacher's perception towards human rights education was positive though many had low self-efficacy due to lack of training on how to teach human right education. The students showed high level of human rights awareness with the internet being a major contributor to this awareness. The author recommends that school administration provide adequate instructional resources, integration of human rights in compulsory subjects, carry out in and pre-service courses for teachers, use of e-resources and student centered teaching strategies.
