O knihe
This book discusses challenges facing management of learners with special needs in special schools and units. Anchoring his arguments on the Social Model of Disability, the author establishes parents' awareness on the concept of disability, takes the reader through the identification of facilities and resources that are available to learners with special needs in schools, reviews the qualifications and experiences of personnel who handle learners with disabilities and analyses the criteria of monitoring and evaluation of these learners in special institutions. The book observes that parents have a positive attitude towards learners with disabilities. However, despite this positive outlook, it is evident that there is no provision of quality teaching and learning resources. Consequently, learners with physical disabilities are unable to access classrooms with ease which adversely affects the quality of services for children with Special Needs in schools. The author recommends that the government purchases assistive devices and inspects the programmes offered to learners with special needs in education.
