The book traces Jewish immigration to the United States and the entry of Jews into the entertainment and cultural industry. It allocates extensive space to the charged connection between music and politics as reflected in the Jewish-Black Alliance - both in the struggle for social justice and in music. It reveals the Jewish success in the music industry and the special and sometimes problematic relationships that were forged in this process so that they became a source of blame for the exploitation of African-American artistic and human capital by Jews. Alongside this, the book shows how the black-Jewish alliance took part in the hegemonic conflict of American culture during the 20th century and even influenced the process of decline of the Wasp elite during the 1960s. Stairway to Paradise fuses American history with cultural studies theories regarding race, class, and ethnicity and offers an alternative thesis regarding understanding the evolution of American music.
