Stalking is a relatively new crime, which means that it is evolving quickly with the advent of new electronic mediums used to harass victims. Anti-stalking legislation exists in every state, but is not uniform. Therefore, victims are not receiving adequate justice. Discursive social constructions formed by circulating media representations work to trivialize the crime and turn it into a colloquial joke.
