O knihe
The protracted conflicts between the Tiv and Jukun ethnic groups in Wukari area of Taraba State is one of the oldest conflicts in Nigeria, which for a long time received attention in both local and international media. From 1860s to 2001, the two groups were engaged in intermittent violent contestations over land and the question of indigeneity versus citizenship, and the accompanying rights and privileges, which are largely the raisons d'être for the conflicts. The conflict got to a climax from 2000 to 2001, resulting in the loss of life and property, including the displacement of several thousands of people out of Wukari. Government institutions and non-governmental organisations intervened in the periodic conflicts. Their intervention efforts were constrained by political, economic, social and operational challenges. The book makes a major contribution to the studies on ethnic conflict management as it examines the challenges encountered by governmental institutions and non-governmental organisations in the management of Tiv-Jukun conflict. It will therefore be useful to security practitioners, policy makers, academics and peace practitioners.
