O knihe
Fiber-reinforced polymer composites have played a dominant role for a long time in a variety of applications for their high specific strength and modulus. Although glass and other synthetic fiber-reinforced plastics possess high specific strength, their fields of application are very limited because of their inherent higher cost. To overcome these critics, research has been carried out with abundantly available natural fibers. Natural fibers are not only strong and lightweight but also relatively very cheap. The present work describes the development of a new set of natural fiber based polymer composites consisting of sugarcane powder as reinforcement and coated with vinyl ester resin and boiled rice water to improve its properties. In the present work, composites are fabricated and their mechanical properties are evaluated in different proportions. NaoH treatment will be done on the sugarcane powder to obtain better interfacial reaction between the matrix and the fiber of the composite, which in turn enhances the mechanical properties of the composite. The mechanical properties of NaoH treated fiber composite will be compared with untreated fiber composite.
