O knihe
The year is 1925. The construction of a major agricultural project in Africa is taking place in the Gezira area of Sudan. As a result, this design paves the way for the emergence of a locally constructed traditional vernacular model, as opposed to the colonial model. Over time, these local settlements have undergone various changes in housing design and quality, as well as in response to environmental and socio-cultural shifts. The reorganization of these organic villages is of utmost importance, yet the government initiatives have failed to address various issues in their planning procedures. In Sustainability in the Rural Built Environment: Vernacular Architecture of the Gezira Area/Sudan, Dr. Elhag Elsiddig Taha Abuelmaali investigates the impact of socio-cultural factors on the built environment in Sudan's Gezira area. The author analyzes architectural changes at different levels of development, including regional settlements, local settlements, and individual dwellings. The result is a solid case for traditional vernacular architecture. By relying on a population's ability to navigate and allocate resources in line with their values, we can combat rural deprivation and foster the development of meaningful and sustainable communities.
