O knihe
The Alexandra Girls' English Institution, founded by Manockjee Cursetjee, has the unique status of being the first English medium girls' school in the Bombay Presidency. The Wood's Despatch of 1854 expressed an interest in female education and included schools for girls in the 'grants-in-aid proposals' immediately after which in 1860, Cursetjee, a Parsee philanthropist gave shape to his long cherished dream. He opened in his home a small girls' school with half a dozen girls, which became the Alexandra Native Girls' English Institution named after Princess Alexandra of Denmark. The school manoeuvred through trials including the challenge of continuous funds, school drop-outs and irregularity in attendance. The Board of Directors and Trustees strived to steer the school in keeping with the ideals of the founder and present-day requirements for the mental and moral development of the students in keeping with the school motto, 'Trust in God and be not Daunted'.The school celebrated its sesquicentenniary in September 2013 promising to continue to impart secular education and has buried its history in a time capsule that will be opened at the school's bi-centenary celebrations in 2062.
