These Jewish monarchs held the future of the Davidic dynasty in their hands. The welfare of the nation depended upon their fidelity to God. However, their successes were greatly outnumbered by their failures. So great were their sins that God literally had to uproot them out of the Promised Land.
These descendants of David were temporarily given a throne that would one day be permanently given to the king of kings. Their character was eventually revealed through the challenges they faced. Their examples are both encouraging and disappointing. It's true-you can learn a lot from a king.
